Tenerife Island Hydrological Plan

This project “is the basic tool for hydrological management; set aside for getting a better meeting the water needs and rationalize the Island use of hydraulic resources, thus protecting their quality and ecomizing them harmoniously with the environement and other natural resources” (article 3.1. from the Canarian Water Law).

The Tenerife Hydrological Plan was the first one to pass the Government approval in Spain (Dec’96). Today, its main aims are:

  • The evolution found out in its 8 years of age
  • The European Framework Water Law for a water policy (DMA)
  • Our own national Water Law changes
  • Tenerife Island Zoning (PIOT)

Tenerife Water Council has begun the updating in 2005. We expect the new Plan will provide an answer to the Island needs in the next few years. It will come into effect in 2007.
